It was the winter of 1981 when a group of friends, driven by their enthusiasm and commitment to the Patron Saint Festivities of Santoña, decided to found ASMDECAHUSAN, the Association of Friends of Humorous Floats of Santoña.
Their initial goal was to collaborate in organizing the float parade, a central tradition of these celebrations.
However, the creative spirit of this group went even further. A significant part of its members thought it would be interesting to also join the tradition of murgas.
It was in 1982, during an informal meeting "at Minguin's" in Bar Montreal, when the great Paquito Bodegas, in the middle of a few glasses of wine, encouraged them to perform, saying: "Go out with anything, even in pajamas, I would do it!"
And so "Los Tronzacamas" was born, a name that reflects the Santoñés character of its creators. Instead of opting for generic terms like "Sleepyheads" or "Lazybones," they chose a unique name that connected with the local essence. The idea of performing in pajamas became their signature.
Los Tronzacamas were a pioneering murga in the Santoña Carnival. They actively participated during the years 1983, 1984, and 1985, always under the same title: "Los Personajillos" ("The Little Characters").
In their performances, with humor and wit, they portrayed particular characters from the town, evoking the idiosyncrasies of Santoña.
Another peculiarity of this murga was that they always used the same melody year after year.
After a period of inactivity, the murga returned in 1992 to once again delight the Santoñés audience, reviving the festive and humorous spirit that had characterized them from the beginning.
In 2024, several original members of Los Tronzacamas received special recognition when they were chosen to participate in the Carnival Opening Speech. This honor highlighted the influence the murga had in expanding and consolidating the Santoña Carnival as a landmark celebration, deeply rooted in the tradition and hearts of its people.
